The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon: More Than Just a "Goofy" Beard

If you’ve ever spotted a dog with the rugged look of a mountain explorer and the wise, bearded face of an old friend, you’ve probably met a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon.

1. The Ultimate "Off Switch"
One of the qualities we value most in the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is their wonderful temperament. In the field, they are focused, determined, and athletic, willing to hunt all day through thick cover and cold water. But at home, they know how to relax. Unlike some high-energy hunting breeds that can be "pacing the floors" indoors, a Griff is usually happy to curl up at your feet while you watch a movie.
2. Built for the Field (and Your Allergies)
The Griffon’s coat is truly remarkable. With its harsh, wiry outer layer and soft, dense undercoat, it offers excellent protection from cold water and thick briars—perfect for a dog that loves to work in all conditions.
As an added bonus, Griffons are virtually shed-free and are considered hypoallergenic. While no dog is completely allergy-proof, we have found that many families who typically struggle with dog allergies do very well with a Griffon in their home.
3. A "Velcro" Dog with a Sense of Humor
There’s a reason Griffons are called both the "four-wheel drive of hunting dogs" and the "class clown." They are intelligent, eager to please, and full of personality. Griffons are true "Velcro dogs"—they want to be wherever you are, involved in everything you do. They don’t just live with you; they become a part of your daily life.
4. Natural Ability
Dogs like our own Coop (Hun Hill Magnum) and his puppies have excelled in NAVHDA testing, showing just how strong their natural instincts are. For us, it’s not about the ribbons or titles—it’s about seeing those abilities shine in the field and at home. When you bring home a pup from these lines, you’re welcoming a dog with the natural drive and talent for pointing, tracking, and retrieving already built in.
Is a Griffon Right for You?
As much as we adore them, Griffons are not the right fit for every family. They need plenty of mental stimulation, regular exercise, and a home that doesn’t mind a bit of water on the floor after a drink from that famous beard.
If you are searching for a dog that is as tough and adventurous as the mountains, yet gentle and loving with your family, the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon could be the perfect addition to your home.
